My wife and I are looking to open an online shop and dropship products. We are looking at various products right now to consider selling. We need some help in figuring out the various options in terms of website development/maintenance, setup of shopping carts/merchant account, other possible dropship product ideas. Any thoughts? We would like the shop to have a very profession feel so we wanted to do a little more than a basic eBay store or Yahoo store.

These people are trying to sell me a credit card account for my new business (EPS Merchants). They said the brand new (however, it’s been sitting in the box for over 2 years) Nurit 8320 terminal that i own is “outdated”–something about needing the latest pci coding…–and they want me to get a “newer” machine from them (same Nurit 8320 model) for $34.99 a month–for 48 months. Wow. On top of this, they want me to SEND them my old one (which I OWN)…?
Supposedly their rates are $10/mo. flat rate, no contract. Plus 1.79% retail credit cards and $0.25 flat fee for all debit cards with pin entered by customer. If pin not used (run debit card as a credit card) then it is 1.49%.
Anyone know if i’m being taken for a ride here?? Thanks in advance…my store’s not even open yet…
@ James: “Data Entry From Home”?? Erm…this is a brick and mortar store, selling water conditioning supplies. Hence the need for a credit card machine. Thanks anyway there…

I have taken on a new contract job that will require me to accept credit card payments online or over the phone. I absolutely -can not- afford to lose this job offer as I have already invested a lot of time and money in attaining it and preparing for it.
The developer I am working with had recommended ProPay as a merchant service because they base most of their instructions on the use of ProPay. I went ahead and made an account there, but when I went to process my first orders I had found that the service had been manually cut off. No direct reasons were given, but I suspect it is because someone went and ran a manual personal credit check on me.
I have a credit score of 600, due to a series of unfortunate events where my family decided to abuse my generosity.
Of course, you can not explain this hard-lesson-learned to banks.
This said, does anyone have any suggestions for a merchant account service that I can use that will accept me without a credit check or with a score like mine?
It needs to be newbie-friendly, as I have never had to accept payments before or have an account. It also should allow me to send invoices and allow customers to pay directly online; there should not be a very low cap on the monthly transactions, because I do anticipate a large number of sales. I can pay for any fees, so long as they are not predatory and rediculous.

I’m starting my own online business and need to process credit cards. I’m familiar with paypal and clickbank but would like to see if getting a merchant account with credit card processing features be a better fit for my business.
However, I know that many banks do not like internet businesses, so is there a company that specializes in this type of accounts?
