Not only does it provide insightful lessons for any entrepreneur selling their products and services online, but it gives a behind-the-scenes look at what you absolutely need to know before signing any merchant processing agreement. Before you call a vendor for online processing, you will want to read this book. It very well could save you from costly mistakes by educating you on the right questions to ask before you sign on the dotted line.

  3. So the phone rings last week and it’s the seventh call in three week I get from some credit card processing company or bank trying get me to switch. It’s become worse then the cell phone wars. Every one of these callers pitches the same thing, lower rates, lower rates and lower rates. No benefits of using their services.

Each disembodied voice, asks the same lame question about my present credit card processing service, then promise the moon, stars and massive savings.

The problem is how do your know which processor can actually deliver on what they promise?

We’ve all heard the horror stories of switching credit card processing providers.

In fact, one of my business partners was tasked with just that. And he went with the processor that offers the lowest sign-up costs. The lowest rates. The lowest everything he could get. Well after the first statement arrived, he hit the roof. There where so many unexplainable additional fees that the credit card processing bill had more than doubled our last provider.

With all that said we had to do something. So, we searched the Internet and found “Navigating Through the Risks of Credit Card Processing” by Bill Pirtle. Ordered it and waited impatiently during the four days it took to arrive. Should have had it overnighted.

Now, having this new book in hand, we dug in and learned about what to look for when choosing a credit card processor. This book was so well organized and easy to follow and most importantly, understandable. Not too much technical gibberish. I wish every guru, author and expert books was this organized and to the point. In fact, this is more than a book on credit card processing; it’s a guide, roadmap and a power tool.

My favorite chapter, the one I learn the most from is titled, “How To Choose A Sales Agent”

If I make any mistakes now, they will be my own fault because I didn’t follow the advice to the letter.

Anyway, we ended up with six pages of detailed notes describing all the questions to ask, the pitfalls to watch out for and costs associated with using a credit card processor.

If ever there was a need for a book on credit card processing, it’s NOW. I highly recommend this book by Bill Pirtle “Navigating Through the Risks of Credit Card Processing.”

As a small business owner, I never familiarized myself with the specific details involved in credit card processing, until I read this book. Mr. Pirtle explains in an understandable and extremely informative way, the small and large particulars involved in doing business with credit card processing companies.

Regardless of the size of your business, I recommend this as an enlightening read. I would call this the “nuts and bolts” for anyone running a business that accepts credit cards!

  5. What a great business primer! Yes, I got the information my wife and I needed for her new art business-who knew that artists’ credit card needs were different?

Surprisingly, the ideas in the book went far beyond just credit card processing-the original reason I bought the book. The “bonus” chapters are simply terrific segments that are helping my other businesses that don’t even use credit card processing!

This book is so good that I carry it with me in my car and reread sections of it every day. I can’t say this is the only business book you should ever buy, but if you are a small business owner who wants to sell more business, retain more clients, and become more profitable without having to “reinvent the wheel”, then this book is a definite “buy”!
